Sapodilla ‘Silas Woods’ (Manilkara zapota) |
Sapodilla ‘Silas Woods’ (Manilkara zapota)
This rare dwarf Sapodilla ‘Silas Woods’ produces fruit when young, often within the first year as a container plant. The fruit holds on the branches for several months until it ripens becoming soft when ready to pick. The sweet fruit can be scooped out with a spoon and tastes like brown sugar. Grow in full sun and hand-pollinate to ensure fruit set if grown indoors. Although optimum minimum temperatures are 60°F, it can tolerate temperatures down to 35°F for short periods. ‘Silas Woods’ is well suited for pot culture as it can easily be maintained at less than 5’ in height while still producing an abundance of fruit. Sapodilla plants produce chicle, a white natural gum that was originally used to make chewing gum.
Hardy to Zone 10 and higher for outdoors.
Full sun, grows to 3-6' in container, minimum temperature indoors 40°, blooms in spring and summer.

pleased with sapodilla |
| Very well packed. Seemed very dry upon unpacking. I was not sure tree would thrive. In three months tree has more then doubled in size. Expect fruit next year. Very tough tree. |
