Sweet Pepper Bush (Clethra alinifolia ‘Ruby Spice’)
Highly fragrant, rose-pink bottle-brush flowers arrive in mid-summer on this enduring native shrub. Best known for its sweet fragrance, which permeates the mid-summer garden air, it also attracts pollinators of many types. Native to wetland areas of North America, it adapts well to most garden situations, tolerating both full and partial sun and even shade. It will grow up to 6’ in height but it’s easy to create a smaller shrub by pruning in late winter or early spring. ‘Ruby Spice’ brings a bright pink floral show when used as an accent or foundation plant.
Hardy to Zone 4 and higher for outdoors.
Full to partial sun, grows to 4-6' in container, blooms in summer.
