Jasminum / Jasmine Plants

Jasmine plants, from the Jasminum genus, are famous for their sweet, delicate blooms that emit an enchanting fragrance. Jasminum officinale, or true Jasmine, is one of the most favored species because of its star-shaped flowers and alluring scent. Most Jasmines flower in the spring, summer and fall, but Winter Jasmine flowers in the shorter days of winter, adding fragrant flowers to the darkest time of the year. Jasminum sambac, or Arabian Jasmine, has a compact growth habit and powerful fragrance. Hardy Jasmine can be planted in outdoor gardens as far north as zone 6. Most Jasmine plants are vines that should be grown on a trellis or support in full to partial sun and well-draining soil. Besides their beauty and fragrance, Jasmine has been used for medicinal and culinary purposes. The flowers can be brewed into tea or made into an essential oil.
