Sambucus / Elderberry Trees and Plants

Elderberry, or Sambucus, is a beloved plant for both beginner and seasoned gardeners. In late spring or early summer, elderberries produce aromatic clusters of white or cream-colored flowers followed by delicious, nutritious black or blue-black berries packed with antioxidants. Elderberries are used in various culinary delights like jams, jellies, and syrups and boast medicinal properties as well. These sun-loving plants are easy to care for, preferring well-draining soil and minimal pruning. Some European Elderberry varieties are self-fertile. American Elderberries need two different varieties to cross pollinate and produce fruit. (View Sambucus / Elderberry plant care information.)
