Shade
to partial sun (north, east or west exposure).
Temperature:
Maintain
as a potted plant at indoor temperatures above 60°F.
Humidity:
Preferably
50% or higher. The higher the humidity the better. They
suffer from long periods of low humidity.
Watering:
Soil should
remain evenly moist. Do not dry out. Fronds
will be damaged by wilt. Plastic pots for ferns are better
than clay because they hold more moisture.
Fertilizer:
Use
low levels of fertilizer. Fertilize once a month with a dilute
solution. Sensitive to high salt levels.
Pruning:
Prune damaged or
yellowing fronds as needed.
Insects and
Disease:
Highly
susceptible to scale and slug and snail damage.
Comments:
Maidenhair ferns
or adiantums need high humidity and even moisture to grow
successfully. When growing in a home situation, cluster
plants with other plants on pebble trays for humidity or keep water in
a saucer to ensure constant moisture.
