Cultural Information – Aloinopsis
browse
our aloinopsis department
Light:
Full sun
(southern exposure).
Temperature:
As a potted
plant, maintain indoor temperatures above 60°.
Humidity:
They will
tolerate low levels with no harm even preferring dryness to humid damp
conditions.
Watering:
Bring soil to a
state of complete dryness between watering. Important:
grow them dry. When
watering, thoroughly saturate soil until a little water runs out of
the bottom of the pot. Grow
in a clay pot to ensure a quick dry down between waterings. They
prefer a little more moisture in the summer and less in the winter.
Fertilizer:
They are light
feeders so a 1/4 tsp./gallon once a month is a general recommendation.
When growth actively stops in winter discontinue feeding.
Use a balanced fertilizer i.e. 15-15-15 or a blooming
fertilizer like Pro Gro ‘Grow’ 7-9-5 or Electra 5-10-3.
Pruning:
Plant does not
need pruning and only very old plants need to be divided.
Insects and
Disease:
Aloinopsis have
few problems with insects. They
are, however, highly susceptible to bacteria and fungal rots
especially during the winter months under excessive soil moisture and
cool conditions. Growing
them dry eliminates the problem.

Comments:
Aloinopsis are
easy plants to grow, loving sun and dry conditions. Remember to treat
them with a little neglect.
