Give
them low concentrations of fertilizer, once a month at a rate of ¼
tsp. of a balanced fertilizer (such as 7-9-5 or 10-10-10) and be sure
to flush the potting media with clear water before applying more. They
are sensitive to elevated salt levels. Organic fertilizers are a
better choice.
Pruning:
Prune
young plants to encourage branching. This will help create a bushy
plant and stronger limbs to hold the heavy fruit. The best time to
prune is late spring after flowering and when in active growth.
Insects and
Disease:
Resistant
to most insects; occasional mealy bug problems. They are susceptible
to root disease if kept too wet.
Comments:
Better
to grow them in clay pots. When repotting, do not over pot. Better if
kept in warmer temperatures above 60°F.
