Hardy Bisset's Bamboo (Phyllostachys bissetii)
Hardy bamboo is a valuable plant for northern gardens. It can be used to create a hedge or specimen planting that doesn’t require pruning or pesticides for healthy growth. The dark green canes have dense green foliage making it ideal for a windbreak or privacy hedge. Mature upright canes measure about 1” in diameter and will reach 20’ tall. Phyllostachys are “running bamboos” that will spread in the garden but can be controlled by root pruning or barriers. Hardy in zones 5-10.
