Hawaiian Mamaki (Pipturus albidus)
A member of the nettle family, this native medicinal plant from Hawaii is known for its healing properties as an adaptogen. It is one of the three top herbs used in traditional Hawaiian culture. Mamaki leaves are used in teas to treat a variety of conditions. The tea has some energizing properties so it is best to drink it during the day. The white edible fruit, about the size of raspberry, has a subtle but sweet to bland taste. Use caution when eating the fruit; it has been said to have mild laxative properties. Grow in full to partial sun. We are selling the red-stemmed variety that produces bigger leaves when grown in partial sun.
