Plumeria ‘Waimea’
Named after the famed Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, this stunning red, fragrant plumeria is another hybrid from Jim Little’s collection. Large clusters of bright red flowers with orange centers emerge from the stem tips and have a sweet fragrance. ‘Waimea’ has a long flowering season during the summer months and the tree can reach up to 12’ in Hawaii, but much less if maintained in a container in northern zones. This plumeria is a deciduous variety and will go dormant in the fall. Once temperatures reach 50°F bring the potted plant inside and put it somewhere not too hot where it will receive bright indirect light. It will lose its leaves and resemble a dormant green stick. Water only once or twice a month during winter. Keep it dry; too much water will cause it to rot. When spring arrives new leaves will begin to sprout and once the outdoor temperatures reach 65°F, it can go outside for the summer.
Hardy to Zone 10 and higher for outdoors.
Full sun, grows 4-6' in container, minimum temperature indoors 60°, everbloomer.
Fragrant!
