Arctic Raspberry Plant Set ‘Beta’ & ‘Sophia’ (Rubus arcticus x stellarcticus)
Arctic Raspberries are unusual new varieties developed in Sweden at the
Balsgard Fruit Breeding Institute. They only grow 3-5” tall and make a dense mat of
leaves on the ground. In late spring, lavender flowers appear and turn into sweet,
red raspberry fruits by mid-summer. The fruits are about the size of a small ‘Heritage’
raspberry and each plant can produce up to one pound of ripe berries. In fall, the
green foliage changes to colorful crimson and burgundy. The plants die-back to the
ground in winter and regrow in spring. There is no annual pruning needed so these
require less work than standard raspberries. They create a beautiful, edible ground
cover. Arctic Raspberries need a cross-pollinator to set fruit. We are selling a Set of
2 plants: ‘Beta’ and ‘Sophia.’ These are the hardiest fruiting plants we sell, able to
withstand cold temperatures to zone 2. Set of 2 plants, each in a 2.5” pot.
