Developed by the
USDA Agricultural Research
Service, ‘Nocturne’ is a vigorous,
winter hardy, black-fruited
blueberry, originating from
a cross of three different blueberry
species and a southern
Rabbiteye blueberry. It fruits
mid-July through mid-August
and creates a colorful
fruiting landscape plant with
reddish-orange unripe berries
and dusky black mature fruit.
It has a unique, sweet blueberry flavor, and bears 12-15 pounds of fruit after
1-2 years of established growth. Although self-fertile, it is recommended to
plant ‘Nocturne’ with other northern blueberry varieties to maximize yields.
Grow in well-drained acidic soil. Hardy in zones 4-8.
