Caladium ‘Spring Fling’ (Caladium hybrid)
Caladiums add brightly
colored, exotic-looking foliage to
the summer garden.
‘Spring Fling’ has hot pink leaves
with dark green leaf veins and
black leaf stems. The 18-24” plants
are very full and it maintains the
vibrant color in full sun or partial
shade. The large leaves can reach
up to 10” across. These caladiums are preplanted, well rooted
tubers with leaf spikes initiated. Plant them
directly in the garden or in a large 6-8” pot.
Cover the tuber with only 2 inches of soil. Plant
when ground temperatures are warm since
caladiums don’t like temperatures below 55°F.
Dense plantings of one pot per square foot create
a profusion of color in the garden. In mid-summer floral spikes emerge and last
4-5 days. In the fall, dig up the bulbs and overwinter inside for gardeners in northern
zones, or grow as an annual. Caladium plants require little to no fertilizer.
