Hardy Kiwi Vine ‘Ken’s Red’ Set (Actinidia purpurea x melanandra)
Clusters of sweet,
smooth fruit are ready for harvest
from September through October.
The bite-sized, colorful fruit boasts
reddish-purple skin and flesh and it’s
eaten like a grape – skin and all. ‘Ken’s
Red’ is a vigorous grower that should
be planted in full sun with support to
climb on. Like most female hardy kiwi,
‘Ken’s Red’ needs a hardy male kiwi for
cross-pollination. This set includes one ‘Clark’ male hardy kiwi that blooms earlier
and will cross pollinate both ‘Ken’s
Red’ and ‘Anna’ kiwis. One male plant
can pollinate up to 8 female plants.
Once plants are mature, fruit yield can reach 100 pounds in a single season.
Hardy kiwi plants have excellent pest and disease resistance. Hardy in zones 4-9.
