Passion Flower ‘Giant Granadilla’ (Passiflora quadrangularis)
Grown both for its showy flowers and fruit, “Giant Granadilla” is the largest fruiting passion flower with fruit reaching the size of a football! The ripe fruit turns a golden color and is a sweet edible fleshy treat. The pulp is used commercially in passion fruit juices. The large 4-5” flowers have uniquely long twisting purple filaments. In the northern latitudes it tends to be a fall bloomer and the flowers need to be hand pollinated to produce fruit. The vine is large and needs support and room to grow. With lots of light, regular watering and moderate fertilizer, Passiflora quadrangularis should flower within a year. Prune only after flowering.
