Sapodilla ‘Silas Woods’ (Manilkara zapota)
This rare dwarf Sapodilla ‘Silas Woods’ produces fruit when young, often within the first year as a container plant. The fruit holds on the branches for several months until it ripens becoming soft when ready to pick. The sweet fruit can be scooped out with a spoon and tastes like brown sugar. Grow in full sun and hand-pollinate to ensure fruit set if grown indoors. Although optimum minimum temperatures are 60°F, it can tolerate temperatures down to 35°F for short periods. ‘Silas Woods’ is well suited for pot culture as it can easily be maintained at less than 5’ in height while still producing an abundance of fruit. Sapodilla plants produce chicle, a white natural gum that was originally used to make chewing gum. Our grafted plant is "true-to-name" and will fruit sooner.

  1. Hurricane-proof Review by Linda
How do you rate this product?

This little gem has survived a hurricane here in Florida. I bought it a few years ago and it is covered with fruit. I have neglected it and it still grows beautifully. If you prune it, it will branch out and form a nice shrub. (Posted on 8/18/2018)

  2. Nice plant. Review by Tom
How do you rate this product?

It's a good size plant about 1.5 feet tall and arrived in excellent condition. It will need frost protection when the tree is young but supposedly can withstand colder temperature when matured. Make sure you know how to take care of this beautiful plant. (Posted on 8/23/2016)

  3. Very nice plant Review by Katelynn
How do you rate this product?

I was searching for this specific variety of sapodilla because of the outstanding reviews but ai could not find it in stock in any online nursery so late in the season until logees. It arrived looking very nice with a nice compact canopy. To my surprise it arrived with one fruit already set! Very happy with my plant. (Posted on 8/5/2016)

  5. Great plant Review by Tropic plant lover
How do you rate this product?

I was walking through the greenhouse one day couple years ago and was excited to find this plant. This was the first year that it has flowered and fruited. And the fruit is delish. Has grown huge over the time I had it and is a great addition to the plant collection of my tropicals. (Posted on 9/10/2014)
