Variegated Mahoe Tree (Hibiscus tiliaceus)

The beautiful Variegated Mahoe Tree is a common landscape specimen in tropical regions such as Hawaii or Florida. It’s mainly grown for its large, variegated, heart-shaped leaves that are green and white with touches of red on the new growth. Blooming in the summertime, small flowers open yellow in the morning and turn red by the afternoon, and similar to tropical hibiscus, the flowers only last one day. Grow in full sun and fertilize during the active growing season but reduce water and fertilizer in the fall and winter. When grown as a landscape plant in tropical zones, it becomes a medium-sized tree but when grown as a container plant, it can be maintained at a shorter height by hard pruning in spring.
