Giant Potato Tree (Solanum wrightii) |
Giant Potato Tree (Solanum wrightii)
This exceptional flowering shrub from South America blooms for months at a time covering itself with 2 ½” blooms. Flowers open as a violet-purple color and fade to almost white. The flower stems form along the new growth and continue to produce blooms over many weeks. Known as the "Giant Potato Tree," it can grow 6 to 8 feet or taller. Although it doesn’t produce potatoes, it’s in the same family. Typically it is grown from seed and plants need to grow several feet before flowering begins. We are selling cutting grown plants, which tend to be bushy, well branched and flower when 6” to 12” tall making these plants excellent for containers. Normally, a spring-to-fall bloomer Solanum wrightii will flower year round if grown in high light.
Hardy to Zone 10 and higher for outdoors.
Full sun, grows to 2-4 in container, minimum temperature indoors 50°, intermitent bloomer.

My New Favorite Plant |
| Bought this last winter, in bloom, and now in September it still has not stopped blooming! I love the fragrance of the flowers as well as the changing color. The oak-like foliage is a plus as well. Its a big grower but worth every inch of space. |
