Feijoa sellowiana "Pineapple Guava"
"Pineapple Guava" is an easy-care fruiting plant for container growing. This drought tolerant plant is an evergreen shrub with leathery green leaves and silvery undersides. Sweet, edible flowers appear May through June and the kiwi-sized fruit has waxy green skin and soft succulent flesh similar to a pear in texture. The green fruit develops a sweet fragrance even before it fully ripens in the fall. Plants need to be subjected to cool night temperatures from the 20's- 50's for successful flowering. "Pineapple Guava" tastes like a cross between pineapple and guava with a hint of mint. Cut the fruit in half and scoop the pulp with a spoon for a delicious treat. Fruiting starts 3-5 years after planting. Although somewhat self-fertile, we recommend planting two for best pollination. Feijoa is remarkably pest-and disease-resistant. Also known as Acca sellowiana.
Hardy to Zone 8 and higher for outdoors.
Full sun, grows to 4-6' in container, minimum temperature indoors 35°.
