Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
Oregano is a well-known Mediterranean cooking herb, but better yet, its pink flowers are an excellent resource for the pollinator insects. This enduring perennial blooms for months, from July until the first hard frost and it’s a great nectar food source. It has a bit of a spreading habit, although it is not as aggressive as the mints. Oregano has two strong benefits in the garden: it has a prolific flowering tendency so its an ideal plant for pollinating insects and you can harvest the leaves for your culinary delights.
