Variegated Rough Lemon Tree (Citrus jambhiri)
Variegated Rough Lemon has medium-sized fruit with unusual wrinkled and rough skin. A medium thick rind covers the inner light-yellow flesh that has a tangy lemon flavor. There’s a hollow cavity in the center of the fruit. Cream-colored leaf variegation adds to its charm. Variegated Rough Lemon is used in northern India as a table lemon and elsewhere as understock for grafting since the rootstock is so strong. Variegated Rough Lemon is believed to be a cross between a mandarin and a citron. The fruit can be used at any stage of ripeness and is often juiced for lemonade, lemon curd, or other culinary dishes.
