Elephant Ear ‘Pink China’ (Colocasia hybrid)

Elephant Ear ‘Pink China’ (Colocasia hybrid)

SKU: R2862-4

4" Pot Size

Brilliant pink stems and rich green leaves with a pink dot in the center add vibrant color to any container or garden. Possibily the hardiest of all colocasias, 'Pink China' can tolerate zone 6 with a heavy layer of mulch as winter protection. It makes the perfect tropical plant for people in colder zones who don't want to move plants inside for the winter. 'Pink China' generally reaches 4' tall the first season and it spreads by underground rhizomes creating a larger display with each subsequent year.

Plant Care

Tips for Success:

Fast and easy-to-grow the Taro Root is almost foolproof and the large leaves a pleasure to grow.

• Grow in full sun. The more sun the better, although they will   grow under varying light levels.• Fertilize moderately but be consistent. Too much feed can   burn the foliage.• In the summer water freely. They can be grown in water or at   the water's edge. • For container and garden planting keep evenly moist.• In winter, tubers can be dug and stored in a basement,   keeping some moisture around the root. Or grow inside as a   houseplant.

Recovered Really Well

When it arrived, it wasn't looking all that well and was very flimsy. But a week into having it, it recovered and is growing new shoots. It's still very flimsy and I hope it'll start to stand on its own soon.

Fabulous plant

I'm in zone 7. Pink China went through its first winter last year with flying colors. It is late to emerge. No insects or diseases seem to bother it (and we have plenty of Japanese beetles). It looks so exotic. I love this plant and will always have it in my garden.
