I wrote a previous review of this product shortly after I received it which has never been published. I was not overly pleased with this particular product but did say that I decided to order from Logees because I know they are a reputable company, so I am not sure why the review was not published. Anyway I received this plant in mid-late summer of 2021. I had some other verrucosums of this type that I imported, and had quite a hard time rooting the Ecuadorian imports. My plants were small, so when I saw that Logees had them I decided to order, since I have only ever received well-rooted plants from this company. The plant I received was well-rooted but was quite the ugly duckling. Every leaf had brown necrotic spots and the new leaves that unfurled had the gold flecking and would get necrotic holes. My imported plants (which are still smaller than my Logees plant) do not get the flecking or holes.
However, I live in the subtropical USA, and as our temperatures cooled in fall, the leaves on my Logees plant began developing without the flecking and holes. I don't know if the high temperatures caused them or what. But what surprised me is how quickly my leaves shot up to a more mature size (about 10 inches by fall). Unfortunately, I broke the tip off the plant early this Spring. But I was able to root part of it and it is growing the larger leaves just gorgeously. As our summer heats up, I hope I can keep the flecking and holes at bay. And I'm glad I trusted Logees and was able to finally get a well-rooted verrucosum straight out of the box.
The plant looks absolutely amazing and already has a head start on a stake. This plant was grown perfectly for those who want to put it on a moss pole! Packaging was great, not a single damaged leaf. I can't wait to buy more plants from here.
I have been thinking about this plant for awhile. Decided I'd order before it gets too cold to ship. It was much smaller than thought. But definitely beautiful. With 5 leaves. It came much quicker than anticipated. Ive heard you can lose all leaves due to shipping. Its looking like its holding fine. Logees always has top quality plants with fast shipping. Other plants ive bought in the past have grown beautifully. Thank you!
I ordered 3 of the "rarer" philodendrons within a day of each other. Two of the three arrived with lots of damage to nearly all their leaves (the verrucosum and melanochrysum). I did not expect this for the price.
The verrucosum had large spots of browning in the leaves and several leaves where these had developed into large holes or missing edges/halves of leaves. They were packaged well and the few other plants I ordered with them did not have this damage. For example, I ordered a bougainvillea and a ficus and they did not have these necrotic areas and browning even though they were shipped with these plants. So, I don't know if it was the heat during shipping or not but it did not affect the thin-leafed bougainvillea or ficus.
The verrucosum has put out about four new leaves since I have had it. It is growing outside in a shade house here in the subtropical U.S. The new leaves do not have the brown spots. But I am beginning to see the gold/yellow flecking that Logees describes in this listing. Those areas do look more sensitive and I am hoping they do not develop into necrosis later on. I suppose I will have to propagate this plant to have something that looks presentable, as most of the leaves it was shipped with have browning and missing parts. But it is well-rooted and continues to grow in my care. And I appreciate that. And it is why I decided to buy from Logees.
I do have an imported verrucosum of this type and it does not have the gold flecking that the Logees plant does. It was also shipped (almost rootless) from Ecuador to me in the same month and it had almost no damage to the leaves.
This was my first purchase with logees and it was great! The plant is awesome and the shipping was superb. My only issue I have is that the plant is very juvenile and not nearly like the photos. It's quite small and has no coloring on the leaves yet. It will get there with some time, but I was expecting a much more mature specimen. Luckily these things grow quite quick!
