Avonia in Terracotta Pot (Avonia quinaria)
This rare and unusual succulent is a dwarf caudiciform plant with a fleshy, and somewhat woody, caudex. Thin branches grow out of the crown of the flattened caudex and only reach 1” long. Small purple flowers are borne on the ends of the branches in summer. Grow in full to partial sun and well-drained potting media. Do not allow Avonia to sit in water since overwatering can kill it. Keep mostly dry in the winter months as the caudex stores water for drier times. This Avonia has been planted in a small terracotta pot measuring 1.75” x 1.25”.
