Since I live in Michigan, I have to treat this as a container plant - inside in the Winter, outside in the Summer. During the Summer, I kept it in full sun and it was never without bloom once it got to apx. 1 ft. in height. I did have to water it frequently, as the sun and wind tended to dry it quickly, but it never suffered more than mild wilt. After moving inside under florescent light, it quit blooming, but experienced no significant leaf drop or problems with pests. I intent to repot into a larger pot this Spring when I return it to the outdoors, and look forward to another Summer of outstanding blooms.
I received a very healthy, nicely branching plant from Logee's in mid-August, and by mid-October it was covered in buds and starting to bloom. The flowers are large and beautifully ruffly, and both the morning and afternoon colors are lovely. I have no outdoor space, so I'm growing the hibiscus indoors in a container, in a south-facing, very sunny window, and so far it seems to be doing very well.
