Anonymous My second hummingbird plant of the season arrived, ready to bloom. My plan is to winter the plants over in a sunny window so that they are ready for the returning hummingbirds next spring.
Fragrant clusters of brilliant, red, tubular blooms with pink throats rise up on this upright growing shrub throughout the year. A hybrid between B. longiflora and B. ternifoila, it carries the fragrance of the former and the color and vigor of the later. The fragrance is sweet and inviting being most pronounced at night. We love using ‘Ruby Red’ in a cut flower arrangement. As a container plant, it can be maintained at 2-3’ in height and takes pruning with ease. Grow in full sun for best results.
