Loquat ‘Christmas’ (Eriobotrya japonica hybrid)

Loquat ‘Christmas’ (Eriobotrya japonica hybrid)

SKU: R2974-6G

6" Pot Size Grafted Plant

‘Christmas’ Loquat is an ideal plant for container gardening in northern zones since it blooms and fruits easily at a young age. Loquat fruit measure nearly 2” long and grows in clusters of 5-25 at the terminal ends of the branches. The delicate and delicious fruit ripen to apricot- yellow and are soft, sweet and juicy when they’re ready to eat. Each fruit contains 2-3 inedible brown seeds inside. Loquats are native to southern China and they are in the same family as apples, pears and quince, although they are only hardy to zone 9. ‘Christmas’ Loquat is a small tropical tree with long 12” stiff, green leaves that are tinged white on the undersides. This is a grafted plant that blooms and fruits sooner.

Flowering in spite of me

I purchased this plant last summer, and let it dry out too much in my greenhouse over the winter. Despite nearly complete dieback, the plant rebounded, has grown well all season, and is now showing flower buds in just its second year (and first full one) in my "care". I'm consistently thrilled (if no longer surprised) at the quality of the plant material I've purchased from Logee's. Thank you!

Absolutely gorgeous specimen

The quality of grafted tropicals from logees continues to blow me away. The specimen sent to me is absolutely gorgeous, hands down one of the prettiest specimens of ANY bio material I have ever seen (extensive experience with reef aquaria, many animal varieties, and hort overall). The fruits on this cultivar are absolutely superior, as is par for the course with Logee's's cultivar selection (or rather, Mr. Martin's). Sent in absolutely perfect condition, we need a section on here for posting pics; I'd love to show you with a pic that my words cannot adequately do justice to! This specimen is going to be gawked over for years to come and will end up another large show specimen of top quality. No brainer; we are lucky these specimens are available for us, thank god for the internet!
