Sweet Autumn Clematis (Clematis paniculata)
Prolific, creamy-white, lightly fragrant flowers completely cover the foliage
from late summer to fall and create a sensational floral show for the gardener
to enjoy. It’s a vigorous, deciduous climbing perennial and should be grown
on a trellis, fence, or other structure for support. Since it blooms on new wood,
it’s best to prune to 12” above the ground in early spring or cut it back after flowering
in southern zones to prevent self-seeding since many feathery, silver seed
heads appear in fall after the flowers have passed. Sweet Autumn Clematis adds
color and fragrance to the late season garden.
