4" Pot SizeGrafted Plant

Selected as a sport in Ventura County, California, ‘Smith Red’ Blood Orange has red pigmented rind and the inner flesh is deep red with a sweet, delicious flavor and very few seeds. The fruit ripens in late winter but holds onto the tree well into late spring. Deep red blood oranges have a high percentage of anthocyanin pigments, and tend to have higher amounts of vitamin C and antioxidants. When fruiting, higher temperatures during the day and lower nighttime temperatures encourage the deepest red color and sweetest fruit. ‘Smith Red’ is a vigorous variety that produces an abundance of fruit. This is a grafted plant that blooms and fruits sooner. Photo courtesy of UC-Riverside Citrus Variety Collection.

4 years to bloom

Not sure what the 1-3' growth size is about...does any citrus stay that small? Ignoring that detail, ordered in 2019 and it is budding for the first time this year (2023). Generally a healthy tree so far but did arrive with the main taproot firmly wrapped around the base. I did not try to unwrap because it was firmly in this position but 4 years on, I'm concerned it will lead to girdling. This taproot has sent out multiple suckers multiple times a year, so keep an eye out for that. I suppose a side effect of shipping tree seedlings. Otherwise, it has grown into a healthy tree with proper watering and fertilizer. Tree is over 6' tall within 4 years.
