Tree PotGrafted Plant
This self-fertile American persimmon is one of the hardiest varieties and can survive temperatures of minus 25°F. The small, tasty fruit ripens to a deep orange color and is best eaten when the fruit is soft, giving it a sweet date-like flavor. The fruit can be astringent if eaten too early. Persimmon ‘Meader’ will bear fruit after 2-3 years and it starts to ripen in early fall. In CT, we harvest fruit in mid-October. Reaching heights of 15-20’ tall, this outstanding persimmon was hybridized by the late Professor Elwyn Meader of New Hampshire. This is a grafted plant that blooms and fruits sooner.
