Cute Flowers and Easy to Grow

"A strong resilient grower" is an excellent way to describe the Tasmanian violet. I have grown this plant continuously for 5 years now and have enjoyed its ease of care. I am a Zone 4 gardener with no greenhouse and this violet does well as a container plant indoors and out. It's a quick grower and will cascade nicely over the side of a pot. The plant grew much taller than expected, creating a lush mound 6 - 10 inches high, especially when grown outdoors during the summer months in a few hours of morning sun. I imagine the plant would stay much shorter if grown in higher amounts of light. Tasmanian violet blooms beautifully for me when kept outside during the growing season. I have seen it bloom indoors during the spring and sometimes in the fall when grown on a west windowsill that gets cool in the winter. Easy to water propagate from runners when the plant gets too root bound and starts to decline. Will survive a wilt pretty well if watering is a little late and my plant bounced back nicely after treating it once for spider mites. I didn't use neem oil, but reducing the foliage to a manageable amount is a great suggestion. This is an amazing plant. The bi-color is unusual for a violet.
