Echium ‘Red Feathers’ (Echium amoenum)
This hardy perennial Echium
has tall red flower spikes that start
blooming in spring. It will rebloom
through summer and into fall by
simply removing the spent flowers.
Bees and butterflies frequent the
blossoms for nectar and pollen. ‘Red
Feather’s’ was an introduction from
a partnership of the Colorado State
University and the Denver Botanic
Gardens. Once mature, it is extremely
drought tolerant, and grows well
in warm, dry areas. In cooler, wetter
climates like CT, we’ve found the flowers will sometimes turn more pink than red.
