One-third larger than the regular passion fruit, ‘Panama’ is a strong grower and it produces extra large, delicious fruit that can be eaten fresh or made into juice. The fruit is reddish-purple on the outside and white on the inside with golden colored custard-like edible pulp. This self-fertile, fruiting variety has good resistance to root rot. The lovely flowers have white petals and frilly purple-to-white filaments. Once the flowers arrive, it’s a sign that the late summer fruit will soon follow. If flowering indoors, hand pollination will help with fruit set.
