Originating in tropical
America, Sugar Apple has
baseball-sized fruit that tastes
like sweet custard with hints
of mango and pineapple. The
unusually shaped, segmented
fruit separates easily for eating
when fully ripe. Within each
segment is the sweet custardy
pulp and one black seed. ‘Thai
Lessard’ blooms in spring and
the fruit are harvested in fall.
The tree starts fruiting early
at just one or two years old.
Grow in full sun in the garden
or landscape in tropical zones or in a large pot in northern zones and allow the
plant to summer outside.
