Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei)
Native to Japan,
Ashitaba is a biennial plant
that grows 4’ tall and has
large, green dissected leaves.
Umbels of white, umbrella-like
flowers bloom from May to
July, attracting pollinators of
many kinds. After it flowers
and sets seeds in the second
year, the plant dies. However,
you can save the seeds to
start over again. Traditionally,
it’s known for its medicinal
properties and is often used
to make tea or the leaves and
stalks can be cooked and eaten for its high vitamin content. Grow in full sun and
give plenty of water.
