Black Gold Philodendron (Philodendron melanochrysum)
Black Gold is a spectacular vining philodendron that when mature produces 2’ long leaves of iridescent black-green with pale green veins. A native of the tropical Americas, its juvenile form creeps along the jungle floor and has small 2-4” round leaves. Once it begins to climb a tree or other vertical object, the leaves increase in size and come into their full glory. This philodendron needs 4-5’ of vertical growing space to develop into its mature form. Black Gold Philodendron prefers to be grown in warm temperatures and indirect lighting near a window. We are shipping plants in the juvenile form.

  1. beautiful vining philodendron......velvet green climber. Review by Ron

beautiful vining philodendron......velvet green climber......needs something to climb on..........takes quite bright light but not full sun........I attenuate the sun from a south window with 2 standard insect screens..........cuts light to about 2500 lumens or less..........leaves seem to get bigger as the plant ages............would be nice if it made multiple leads but does not seem to.............original plant at about 18 inches is now over 4 feet after one summer's growth.....will head off when it reaches about 6 feet and see if the vine tips will root...........if yes, I can fill the large pot with multiple plants and get a real full effect climbing up an iron round trellis............highly recommended.....not difficult to grow (Posted on 12/21/2017)

  2. Not everything’s bigger in Texas Review by Tiffin
How do you rate this product?

I was having trouble finding a P. melanochrysum at my go to nursery here in Austin and turned to Logees. I had a great experience with Logees when I was searching for a variegated Monstera deliciosa. It can be a bit nerve racking to order a plant online, especially when pictures of the exact plant aren’t available, but Logees has exceeded my expectations again with this big, beautiful, healthy plant!! My advice? Order tropicals in the fall when they’re bigger and if Logees has what you’re looking for, don’t bother going anywhere else. If I ever find myself in y’all’s neck of the woods, I’m going to make a point to high five every one of y’all! (Posted on 11/10/2017)
