Camellia ‘April Dawn’ (Camellia japonica hybrid)

Camellia ‘April Dawn’ (Camellia japonica hybrid)

If you’re looking for a unique camellia variety, this is it! Although the formal double flowers of this upright grower are all the same shape, the colors range from dark rose pink, soft shell pink, white or beautiful pink and white striped blooms -- all on the same plant. This cold hardy variety blooms heavily over a long period starting in March. It can grace outdoor gardens in Zone 6 and higher or be grown in containers for those in the far north. This fascinating cultivar shows substantial bloom color variation from year-to-year and flower-to-flower. You’ll want ‘April Dawn’ in your collection.

• Give 30-40°F nighttime temperatures during the winter.
Warm nights during the winter time will cause “bud blast.”
  Up to 59°F is okay.

• Give a slightly acidic soil between (soil ph between 4.8 - 5.8)

• Pinch back young cuttings to get full and bushy growth,
