Loquat ‘Gold Nugget' hybrid (Eriobotrya japonica)

This seedling of ‘Gold Nugget’ has produced abundant crops of large delicious golden fruit in our greenhouses as a container plant for the last 10 years, not skipping a beat. In Connecticut, the fruit ripens in late spring, forming clusters of sweet, juicy oblong fruit. Although they can reach 15’ in the ground, in containers they can be maintained at about 6’ with pruning to maintain form. Best of all, they can be grown in a wide range of temperatures with minimum temperatures from the 60’s all the way into the low 20’s or even the teens for brief periods. When grown in containers, it’s best to keep the minimum temperatures above 25°. These plants are grafted.
