Papaya Solo ‘Sunrise’ was originally hybridized in Hawaii by plant breeders
who wanted to develop smaller papayas with the same taste and sweetness
of the larger varieties. The small, pear-shaped fruit usually weighs about one
pound and has a hard outer shell. The inner flesh is reddish-orange and very
sweet. Papaya fruit is rich in vitamins A, C and beta-carotene, high in potassium
and fiber and it also contains protein-digesting enzymes including papain. Grow
in a large pot in northern zones or in outdoor gardens in zone 10 and higher.
