Persimmon ‘Nikita’s Gift’™ (Diospyros virginiana x kaki)
This exciting new hybrid ‘Nikita’s Gift’ is a cross between an American variety (virginiana) and the Japanese variety (kaki) and it gives us a wonderful fruit tree that is hardy to Zone 5. The bright reddish-orange fruit is about 3” wide and somewhat flattened on top. It has the same delicious flavor as the Japanese variety and the fruit usually ripens in mid October. It is self-fertile, so no cross-pollinator is required. Grow in the outdoor garden in well-drain soil and give plenty of sun and water regularly for great tasting fruit.
