African Starfish Flower (Stapelia hirsuta)
African Starfish Flower is an unusual, easy-to-grow succulent with green quadrangular stems that have toothed edges and rounded tops. Large, dark red, starfish-shaped flowers with yellow bands reach 4-6” across and appear in late summer to early fall. Many fine hairs outline the flowers. This South African native grows best in full to partial sun and well-draining cactus soil. Water infrequently, especially in winter, to prevent rot.
