Avocado Tree ‘Day’ (Persea americana)

Avocado Tree ‘Day’ (Persea americana)

6" Pot Size Grafted Plant

Our ‘Day’ avocado is by far the easiest avocado to fruit in a pot. Plants will fruit at about 3 feet in height and will produce a medium-sized tapered-neck avocado that is easy to peel and has a delicious, buttery sweet taste. The fruit will hold on the plant for six months with ripening occurring from July to September. Another plus for ‘Day’ is its cold tolerance taking temperatures down into the low twenties. We sell grafted plants that will start bearing fruit in 2 to 3 years.

Curious

I ordered 2 of these last year and it seems the grafts failed on one + its looking pretty pitiful but the other looks fantastic! I had ordered 2 assuming they need a pollinator companion but, being that the 1 plant looks like it was to die I figured I would check with you guys about that. Things happen, I've gotten many beautiful plants from Logees before so happy with my overall experience regardless of the one fail.

Fast Grower!

I bought this avocado Tree 'Day' and it grew to nearly 2 1/2 feet in height. True to the description it took the 2 years before it produced flowers and very tiny avocados (the size of small pearled cous cous). Unfortunately the main stem broke off in a recent wind. Hoping it will grow back as the root system is mature.

Five month progress

I received my Day avocado at the beginning of May and it's now mid-October, so I can speak to its first growing season with me. This little tree has done so well! It's put on more than 3' of vertical growth and lots of good branches in the five months I've had it, and it's now a beautiful, healthy, vigorous, and bushy tree. I grow all my avocados in containers due to winter temps (8b) and this one went into a 7 gallon pot on arrival. It already needs a bigger pot, but that'll wait til spring. Fertilized monthly during the growing season.

My Day Avocado from Logees is already making flower buds.

My avocados from Logees seemed healthy but not terribly active at first in terms of putting out new leaves. It's possible I've not yet learned what they like in watering and fertilizing, but I am going slow on both, since when in doubt that's usually the best route with new types of plants. However, just this month, February of the same year I bought it, the Day avocado began to add more leaves and then three bud clusters, each with several flower heads. I was surprised, since the plant description said the first flowers and fruit might come in three years from purchase.

Beautiful avacado plants.

Arrived yesterday in mail. I am in zone 5 - Michigan. Absolutely gorgeous plants. I ordered two and both are on the large side and have very healthy leaves and roots. They were well packaged and watered when they arrived. I am very happy with my order. These two will be kept in pots. They will go outside as the weather permits and come inside for the winter. I am expecting some beautiful avacado's in a couple of years ( or less) !!! :-) I love that Logee's carries and grafts these wonderful trees to be around 3'. I have their Grapefruit tree, late Navel orange tree, two Super Dwarf Banana and now two Avacado trees. Couldn't be happier; they are all thriving!!! A great company! Would love to see the Grain Nan banana tree become a Super Dwarf tree as well - or at least see Logee's sell them)
