Banana Plant ‘Dwarf Cavendish’ (Musa acuminata)

One of the most popular banana varieties grown, ‘Dwarf Cavendish’ is a shorter stature banana only growing 6-8’ tall. The young leaves have red splotching but change to all green at maturity. Flowers appear on a long inflorescence and banana fruit follows going from green to yellow when fully ripe. The banana’s pseudostem dies once it has flowered and fruited but offshoots at the base of the plant grow quickly and flower and fruit the following year. Bananas are an excellent source of potassium and other vitamins and minerals as well as fiber, so they make a healthy snack.
