Black Bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra)
Dramatic black canes make this hard-to-find bamboo a sensational container or garden plant. When it’s grown in a large container, it limits both its overall height (that can reach 30’ tall in the garden) and tendency to “run” (spread by underground rhizomes). Mature canes are 2” in diameter and emerge green but turn black after a year or two. We recommend removing the lower branches to make the black canes more visible. Grow in full sun. Black Bamboo creates an eye-catching living screen or potted specimen.
