Changshou Kumquat Tree (Fortunella obovata ‘Fukushu’)

$49.95
SKU: C2046-4G

4" Pot SizeGrafted Plant

Rare and hard-to-find, the Changshou Kumquat is grown for its large juicy fruit. Fragrant white flowers bloom from May to September with the fruit ripening year-round. Changshou’s pear-shaped fruit is larger than other kumquat tree varieties and it usually has five or six segments of fruit inside the sweet, thin skin. We’ve been working for the past five years to bring the Changshou, or ‘Fukushu,’ kumquat to the US market since we think it’s the best kumquat we’ve grown and it makes a perfect potted specimen. Kumquats are among the hardiest citrus; they tolerate short bursts of cold temperatures into the 20s°. They are also self-fertile. In China and Japan, the Changshou Kumquat is used as an ornamental container plant for the home since it creates a lovely small decorative tree with the added appeal of healthy fresh fruit. Remember, the most delectable flavor comes from eating the whole fruit, peel and all. This is a grafted plant shipped in a 4" pot that blooms and fruits sooner.

Plant Care

Container Grown Citrus

Keep the root systems healthy and active. A period of dryness helps stimulate flowers and fruiting. Mimic Florida’s climate- wet summers and dry fall/winters.

Most important for potted citrus:

• Full sun and high light. The more the better.• For faster growth and an active root system,    grow them warm.• Do not over pot.• Grow in clay pots for optimum root health.• Fertilize spring through fall. • High light aids in flowering and fruiting.• Fertilize in growing season 1-2 times a month.• Water when the soil is visually dry or at first signs of wilt.

purchased in-person, beautiful growing habit

I purchased the 4" Changshou Kumquat Tree in person at Logee's-- I wonder if some of the plants in person are smaller than what is shipped online as my tree was not 2 feet+ like some of the other reviews here, nor is it flowering close to when purchasing it.

However, I have had this tree for over 6 months and it has a naturally *gorgeous* habit without training! I hope to see flowers on it this coming year, but time will tell.

Disappointed of how small the plant is not at all advertised to look!

I received the plant in a small box and to my surprise it was the same size as the box about a foot tall plant. I'm a little disappointed to see how small this looks compared to what they show on there website. Yes it came with a 4inch paper thin plastic pot. But still the size of the grafted stem plant is tiny.
Hopefully it will survive the winter... I'm giving it a two star for trying..

Wonderful, would recommend.

I bought a Fukushu Kumquat from Logee's in November, and by January it was growing and flowering under a grow light in my basement. It was bigger then expected (for a 4" pot) when I bought it, about 2' tall, and it was filling out an 8" pot by March so I plan on bumbig it up to a 10" in the first season. I am in Massachusetts, so it hasn't been outsied yet. It did get spidermites when I first got it, but they were easy to deal with using a quick shower (I just sprayed it off under the shower head), and some horticultural oil. They haven't been back since and the plant is wonderfully healthy and already has immature fruit on it in March.

Awesome! I am so excited!!

I ordered my Kumquat in November, and now in May it has two full-sized fruit (still green), and several more that have set. It has also grown quite a bit and has been very healthy. I stepped it up one pot size at a time, but it has already filled out an 8" pot. I am in Massachusetts and put it under a large grow light for the winter. It did get spider mites shortly after a got it home, as expected from the change in humidity, but they were easy to deal with using a shower and horticultural oil. They have not made a reappearance.

Lovely!!

I ordered the Changshou this past November 2021, kept it in my grow tent indoors since I'm in zone 7b (Md) for the winter. It flowered this March and is fruiting already....Thanks again Logee's for healthy plants and the care you take in your packaging!!
