Giant Timber Bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii)
Giant Timber Bamboo is the largest, non-invasive clumping bamboo with a nice upright habit so it makes a splendid privacy hedge or living screen. It’s an extremely fast grower if planted directly in the ground in full sun and can reach heights of 20-50’ tall when given optimal growing conditions. It has 4” diameter culms and large, wide leaves on short branches. The large bamboo poles are often used for fencing or other projects. The young bamboo shoots can be harvested when they emerge from the soil and then cooked and eaten.
