This fragrant herb from India is famous for its use in perfumery. When you rub Patchouli leaves, they emit an exotic scent. It is a fast grower that has a bushy form and takes well to hard pruning. Grow Patchouli in full sun and even if you forget to water it on occasion, it is forgiving.
Special note: Of the 40 species of Pogostemon, only two are used to make patchouli oil. Java Patchouli (Pogostemon heyneanus) is the one we grow and is more commonly found in cultivation. Pogostemon cablin is the other species used to make patchouli oil.

Plant-loving Bibliophile This is a lovely plant and I received it in good health. However, I placed it in a full sun position on my outdoor patio plant stand based on the snippet of information on the Logees website and 2 hours later it looked like it was close to death- shriveled, and drooping. I did further research and found online that- despite it being a somewhat tropical plant, it only tolerates tolerates partial sun (and well aerated soil). I brought it inside the house and put it on a windowsill with some afternoon light and- after 2 (3?) hours, it perked back up again. It looked great for a couple of days but now it's inside it might need higher humidity (?) or slightly more sun (?) because it is drooping a bit again. It's a bit finicky but worth it. The fragrance of the leaves is lovely.

Java Patchouli does appreciate bright light, but plants that have been grown in a greenhouse should be acclimated gradually before being moved into full outdoor sun. A sudden transition to direct sunlight can cause temporary wilting or leaf scorch, even for plants that enjoy bright conditions.
It sounds like you caught the issue quickly, and we're happy to hear the plant recovered. As it continues to adjust, providing bright, indirect light or morning sun with afternoon shade, along with evenly moist, well-drained soil and moderate humidity, should help it settle in.
