One of the miniature Jewel Orchids, Lightning Bolt, or Macodes petola, has tiny, sparkling veins running through its leaves, making it look like lightning bolts in a summer storm. It is a terrestrial orchid and suitable for a pot or terrarium. Grow in sphagnum moss that you keep evenly moist in an indirect light location. Small white flowers appear in fall.

James Hildebrand I've ordered a couple of Jewel Orchids from Logee's. Both have been good size, very healthy , and vigorous. Im vary pleased. This is a picture of my Macodes petola after a few months (it has about doubled in size). I'm having good success with Jewels here in Ohio without any humidity enclosure. I have them under weaker grow lights, I keep them in shallow clay pots with an airy soil, and water when first dry, about twice a week, We do have a whole house humidifier that keeps the house at 40% min Humidity during winter,

Wilhelmina Cooper-Bility It looked fine when it arrived. Plans did not acclimated well. The first leaf died and I have only one leaf left. Might buy another only because I like to be challenged.
