Major Garden’s Clivia (Clivia gardenii)

Just as resilient and indestructible as the standard clivia, Major Garden’s Clivia is highly sought after for its slender, tubular flowers that appear in pendulous clusters of orange blossoms with green tips. This South African species blooms from April to June and sometimes flowers will form again in the fall. It has the same growth habitat as Clivia miniata so its culture is much the same: provide water, fertilizer and good light in the summer and make sure to keep it drier and cooler in the fall to promote flowering. Major Garden’s Clivia is a great plant for the windowsill as it tolerates periods of dryness and low light and will still flower with regularity.
