Staghorn Fern On Wooden Plaque (Platycerium bifurcatum)
A large, majestic Staghorn Fern is nicely mounted on this handcut wooden plaque. The basal fronds that hold tightly to the tree or board protect the roots from damage and drying out. The fertile fronds have the unusual antler shape that gives this fern its name. It’s best to hang it up similar to how it grows in its natural habitat in the tropical rainforests. Staghorn ferns need cycles of soaking and drying out. This can be done by soaking the Staghorn in water and then letting it dry out. It can grow happily for several years in a bright window with direct sunlight or outdoors in the summer months in indirect sun by hanging the wooden plaque on a tree. This is a large fern plant, as shown in the photo, mounted on a wooden plaque. Wooden plaque measures approximately 8” x 12”.
